Fear God Preview

A preview of scripture that identifies those passages that demonstrate and direct us to have a worshipful fear and awe of God…

Deuteronomy 31:12-13

Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it,may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God,as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.

Deuteronomy 31:12-13 (ESV)

Biblical Truth: We gain wisdom through the study of His word, and worship Him through obedience to His word. May our worship be an example to those who do not know His word so that they might turn to His word.

Deuteronomy 10:12-13

And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

Deuteronomy 19:12-13 (NIV)

Biblical Truth: To fear God is to walk in His ways not ours, to love Him and desire Him for He is a great god. To devote our lives to serve Him with dedication and enthusiasm, and understand that His will for us is for our good.

Deuteronomy 05:29

Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!

Deuteronomy 05:29 (NKJV)

Biblical Truth: Have a worshipful heart for God that is honest, sincere and willing to follow Him, not just when we are convicted of our sins or faced with tough choices, but in all circumstances.

Deuteronomy 04:09-10

Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons. Remember the day you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, when the LORD said to me, ‘Assemble the people to Me, that I may let them hear My words so they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.’

Deuteronomy 04:09-10 (NASB)

Biblical Truth: Be in awe and worship God as you did when you first believed. Keep Him close to your heart each day so that your life will be a reflection of Him, and a living demonstration of worship for others to see.

Genesis 22:12

He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”

Genesis 22:12 (ESV)

Biblical Truth: When we are willing to surrender that which is most dear to us to serve our Heavenly Father we demonstrate our love and worship to Him.

Hebrews 05:7-8

Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Hebrews 5:7-8 (KJV)

God hears the prayers of those that worship Him. The intensity of Christ’s prayers brought comfort from God so that He could be obedient to suffering and saved from death.

Ephesians 06:05

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

Ephesians 6:5 (TNIV)

Be sincere and cheerful in your work. Remember that regardless of who you are working for, you are really working for the Lord. Serve Him with all respect and ability, for a reward awaits you.

The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.

Acts 9:31 (NLT)

A faithful walk with God provides the comfort and confidence of His Spirit. Our faith and the entire church are built up when we worship the Lord.

Luke 23:40-43

But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die?  We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Luke 21:40-43 (NLT)

In this life there is still hope, still time to repent, time to pray and to find faith in Christ who died for us. Our hope is in Him and to the next life.

Matthew 10:28

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 10:28 (KJV)

The fear of man can be a deceptive trap that draws us into sin. Instead, have a sincere faith in Christ and never be ashamed of your relationship with Him, for those who truly worship God need not fear any man.
